The train has been refurbished as part of a mid-life overhaul contract that was initially awarded to Alstom in April 2016.
Alstom was contracted to carry out a series of refurbishment works on a total of seven vehicles under the original arrangement in order to increase their longevity and reliability.
The deal was later extended to include an additional 23 locomotives of the same model.
All of the locomotives are being revamped at Alstom’s facility in Belfort, France, where the vehicles were originally designed and manufactured.
The trains are expected to operate for additional 15 years following the upgrade programme.
Alstom France president Jean-Baptiste Eyméoud said: “The delivery of the BB36000 locomotive in line with the schedule and level of quality required by our customer Akiem is due to the Belfort Services team’s expertise.
“This first success confirms our desire to develop the maintenance activities of the Belfort site through an increase in activities and skills, and to turn the Belfort site into a European centre of reference for locomotive maintenance.”
The revamp process involves the overhaul of entire the locomotive, including the bogies, as well as obsolescence monitoring, component repair and the modernisation of the drivers’ cabins.
The trains will also be repainted to provide the same original external livery.
Multiple Alstom sites are expected to be involved in the various aspects of the overhaul programme.
The company’s Le Creusot facility will be responsible for the bogies, while the Ornans site will cover works relating to the traction engines.
In addition, Alstom’s Tarbes site will be responsible for the traction systems and the Villeurbanne facility will conduct the electronics-based works.
Alstom has also recently received a contract from Spanish railway infrastructure manager Adif as part of a separate development.
The deal will see the company install its latest Atlas European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) technology on-board three auscultation trains.
