Glasgow Airport’s Central Search overhaul project underway

The redevelopment project will include a complete rearrangement of the facility’s entrance, which will increase the number of security lanes from ten to 12.

The existing self-service boarding pass scanners will be moved to a pre-search preparation area on the first floor at the top of the escalators, and the number of self-service scanners will be doubled from five to ten.

In addition, two wider gates will provide support to passengers with restricted mobility as they pass through the security check area.

Glasgow Airport Operations director Mark Johnston said: “Providing our customers with a safe, convenient, and reliable security experience is at the heart of everything we do.

“Passengers travelling through the airport rightly expect a security procedure that is fast, efficient, and friendly. This is a real asset to any successful airport and it’s an area I’m pleased to say we excel in.”

Having started in November this year, the work on Phase I of the project is expected to be completed by March next year.

Johnston further added: “The airport is fast approaching the ten million passenger mark, so it was important to get ahead of the game by expanding the security facility.

“Our current satisfaction ratings sit at 99%, with passengers moving through security in under ten minutes.

“We are confident this latest expansion will further improve performance, particularly during the peak travel times when we are seeing more frequently as the airport continues to grow.”

The upgrade work at Glasgow Airport’s Central Search area is part of a £31m terminal extension project.
