GWR installs Nominet’s cyber security services

Nominet will provide an overall security solution and employ a DNS Cyber Security Services team to monitor, analyse, and support responses to security-related incidents.
Nominet’s purpose-built DNS analytics turing platform is capable of monitoring up to one million security and network events per second.
GWR IT Network & Security Manager Barry Seed said: “Nominet’s DNS-driven approach to monitoring our network and learning from it will allow us to adapt to new threats, and help make it even more secure over time, and we’re excited at the possible outcomes we’ll see.
“These will not only improve the integrity of our network, but could save us management overhead costs as we rearchitect the network in line with the team’s recommendations in the future.”
The new security solution includes a programme of continuous improvements and a range of alerts, regular reports, and meetings designed to secure GWR’s infrastructure.
Nominet DNS cyber consultants working with GWR’s teams will consistently review the network and existing internet traffic patterns to identify vulnerable areas and provide new recommendations.
The service is based on expert analysis of DNS-based data traffic from the output of turing feeds and Nominet’s experience in managing all UK internet traffic.
It delivers data intelligence reports that include internet traffic visualisations and overall health read outs, security events analysis, identifies infected internet protocols (IP) and compromised domains, alerts on unusual traffic volume, and indicators of probable cyber attacks.
GWR manages 208 stations and serves more than 270 destinations west of London.
The company is currently conducting a major fleet upgrade that also involves the modernisation of its business’ IT strategy.
