The construction area includes 1.4mi in Indiana and 2.3mi in Kentucky.
It forms a part of the larger ‘Fix For 41’ construction collaboration between INDOT and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
The overall programme is intended to overhaul seven bridges on the highway from near the Interstate 69 interchange in south Evansville to the Kentucky border.
Some of these bridges are more than 70 years old and the rehabilitation programme is expected to increase their lifespan by an additional 25 years.
The use of Acrow’s detour bridge will allow traffic movement in two lanes during the development works, thereby reducing inconvenience to the commuters.
In addition, the deployment of the rental bridge is also expected to decrease the project timeline by almost one year.
Acrow Bridge CEO Bill Killeen said: “Keeping traffic moving at speed is critical to minimise traffic delay costs, especially on a busy interstate highway, as was the case with this project.
“The rental market has gained a strong foothold in the highway construction industry for its obvious safety benefits and its ability in helping to ensure the project stays on or ahead of schedule.”
Acrow custom manufactured the 390ft-long rental bridge to the required non-standard usable width of 26ft, and the fabrication phase was noted to require complex staging work due to space constraints.
The components of the equipment have been on-site since August and will be in place until the project’s completion.
The initiative is expected to be completed by mid-2019.
