Vanderlande to deliver baggage handling system at Taiwan Airport

The new Terminal 3 (T3) building is being constructed by the Taoyuan International Airport Corporation (TIAC). It is expected to become operational in 2020.

Vanderlande has formed a consortium with its local partner Kenmec to implement the project. The BHS will be able to accommodate up to 19,200 bags per hour.

Once construction of T3 is complete, all terminals will be linked with TUBTRAX, Vanderlande’s automated individual carrier system (ICS).

Currently, TTIA’s existing T1 and T2 BHS are operated individually without a connection between the systems.

Operational efficiency and tracking accuracy at TTIA will be improved by the TUBTRAX connection, Vanderlande noted.

Vanderlande airports executive vice-president and board member Andrew Manship said: “This project will be an important step in developing Vanderlande’s ICS capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region, and we look forward to delivering this project successfully.”

The new BHS system will feature 206 check-in counters distributed over six islands.

Baggage will be transferred from the check-in area through the transport conveyors. These will connect to four tilt tray sorters in the main baggage hall.

Luggage will pass through security screening before being transferred to either the designated carousels, early bag store (EBS) area, or other terminals through TUBTRAX.

TTIA expects passenger numbers to rise to 60 million by 2030.
