Indian Railways introduces new app to track movement of trains

The new app is equipped with various features for monitoring and managing cargo transportation business using Geographic Information System (GIS) Views and Dashboard.

It is expected to streamline traffic flows and optimise freight operations across the region.

Operators will be able to use the app to draw a comparative analysis of zonal and divisional traffic and evaluate daily performance by procuring traffic information at interchange points.

The app will also allow users to analyse the performance of each railway zone and division that utilises freight assets.

In addition, SFOORTI is expected to provide a complete bird’s-eye view of freight assets in a single window and rake movement data on geospatial view, as well as assist in the monitoring of freight terminal and sidings.

The new app features the Freight Operation Information System (FOIS) Map View, which is a GIS-based monitoring and management tool that has been developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).

FOIS provides layered views of freight trains across Indian Railways network in order to facilitate division, zone and board levels of management to improve freight operations.

Furthermore, Indian Railways has also introduced modern Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Kiosk Machines to print tickets booked through the UTS app, as part of a separate development.

The facility will allow passengers to receive printed tickets by placing the screen of their mobile phone displaying the SMS of the ticket into the designated slot of the OCR Kiosk machine.

Western Railway is the first zone under Indian railways to implement this new feature.
