MV Werften starts construction of Crystal’s new expedition yacht

The new vessel will be named Crystal Endeavor and is set to be equipped with Crystal’s own set of hospitality services, as well as all-suite and butler-serviced accommodations.

The Polar Class, purpose-built ship is scheduled to be launched in 2020 and will operate in the polar regions and the world’s most remote destinations.

MV Werften CEO Jarmo Laakso said: “The ‘Crystal Endeavor’ is a truly exceptional ship.

“We are proud to be able to implement this project and are particularly pleased to once again be starting shipbuilding activities in the Stralsund shipyard, creating hundreds of new jobs.”

According to Genting Hong Kong, owner of both Crystal Cruises and MV Werften, the construction of Crystal Endeavor is set to benefit from the company’s recent €20m investment in new equipment for the Stralsund site.

Genting Hong Kong previously contracted Wärtsilä to supply the main engines for Crystal Endeavor in May last year.

The 600ft-long, 25,000t vessel will be able to accommodate 200 guests in 100 suites upon completion.

The megayacht will also feature two helicopters and two landing pads for flight viewing expeditions, as well as two, seven-person submarines, eight electric amphibious zodiacs, jet skis, wave runners, kayaks and paddle boards.

Snorkelling and scuba equipment, a re-compression chamber and dive support tender are also outlined for inclusion on-board the vessel.
