Arora Group renews Heathrow expansion proposal

The Arora Group has unveiled its £14.4bn proposal for new terminal buildings at London Heathrow Airport as part of its bid to embark on the development of the airport expansion.

Designed by architect Corgan, Arora’s plans for the airport’s new Western Hub focus on increasing the capacity with a new terminal between the existing Terminal 5 and the M25.

Instead of new and independent terminal buildings, the Western Hub integrates new passenger facilities with T5 into a single hub campus.

The central concourse will offer swift and easy access to Terminal 5 and the new Terminal 6. An elevated bridge concourse will offer panoramic views over the airfield for passengers and easy navigation underneath for aircraft.

The group noted that the estimated project costs less than half of the £31bn price tag quoted for a competing scheme from operator Heathrow Airport Ltd (HAL).

Arora Group founder and chairman Surinder Arora said: “Our approach has been to work closely with airlines and to employ the world’s best and most experienced airport designers and these benefits are clearly evident in our Western Hub plans.

“Heathrow has been in monopoly control for too long and our proposals show what can be achieved through an alternative approach and Heathrow fully welcoming competition.”

Arora further added that plans for the Western Hub will enable Heathrow to handle more than 50 million additional passengers.

Additionally, the group believes that the new plans will give Heathrow a competing edge over other key international airports after Britain leaves the European Union, including Amsterdam Schiphol, Netherlands, and Paris-Charles De Gaulle, France.
